Joseph Mainama, Pr Eng, SAIMM, AMMSA - Joseph Mainama currently serves as Chairperson of the SAMCODES Standards Committee and is a Partner and Principal Mining Engineer at SRK Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd with more than 29 years of experience in the field of mining engineering. His areas of specialisation includes mining studies from scoping to feasibility level of study across various commodities, project management during upstream and implementation phases, mine operations management, due diligence, project reviews and close-outs, competent person’s reports, independent technical reviews, Mineral Resource and Mineral/Ore Reserve audits as well as mine optimisation studies. His professional background includes a wide range of commodities, including diamonds, copper, gold, volcanogenic massive sulphides, manganese, Platinum Group Metals and chrome deposits.

Nicole Wansbury

Nicole is a Resource Geologist with more than 18 years’ experience in the platinum mining industry. She has held various positions in her career ranging from operational geology to exploration management and mineral resources. She has developed a wealth of experience in aspects of geological modelling, ore production, mineral resource management, evaluation, resource estimation and on-mine exploration. Nicole is the Unit Manager Geology – Resources with Sibanye-Stillwater for the PGM Segment. In her current role she is responsible and accountable, as Competent Person, for the consolidation and Public Reporting of the company’s SA PGM Mineral Resources in compliance with the relevant reporting codes and stock exchange rules (e.g. SAMREC, SK-1300 rules etc).
 
Nicole studied Geology at the University of the Pretoria and completed her MSc (cum laude) in Geology through the University of the Witwatersrand. She has also undertaken additional studies at the Wits Business School and the University of Witwatersrand. She is a registered scientist with the South African Council for Natural Scientific Professions and a fellow of the Geological Society of South Africa.
 
 

Vaughn Duke

Mr Vaughn Duke

Vaughn Duke Pr.Eng, PMP, BSc Mining Engineering (Hons), MBA, has worked in the minerals industry since 1986.
He worked mostly on gold mines in Zimbabwe and South Africa prior to establishing Sound Mining in 2004 and where he and his team have since provided a range of consulting services covering numerous commodities.

Vaughn has been associated with the Southern African Institution of Mining and Metallurgy since his university days. He is now a Fellow of the SAIMM and has contributed both on Council and to numerous committees and working groups over the years, which have included SAMREC and SAMVAL.
He is also a registered member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), The Project Management Institute (PMI), the Association of Mine Managers of South Africa (AMMSA), and the Institute of Directors (IOD).

Mr Andy Clay
SAMOG Committee Chairperson

Mr Andy Clay PrSciNat, MSc (Econ Geol), MSc (GDE),
Andy completed his undergraduate geology at Cardiff and his subsequent studies were at Wits and has almost 50 years of experience. He originally pioneered computerised orebody modelling and ore reserve estimation for Rand Mines. As co-founder of Venmyn in 1988, he has been involved in numerous global and local projects in minerals and oil and gas. Venmyn straddled technical expertise with valuations  and he was an original member of SAMREC, SAMVAL, IMVAL, SAMOG and the WRMS committees. He is also an active writer of publications and many professional and statutory bodies published on numerous securities exchanges. He has worked closely with accounting and audit firms since 2000. He is passionate about maintaining practical, principles based reporting standards. Comparing the methods used in oil and gas with minerals provides him with an unusual insight into the complexities of public reporting of Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves and estimating their values.

Ms Teresa Steele-Schober
SAMESG Committee Chairperson

Teresa has worked extensively in the mining industry as an environmental and sustainability professional. She started her working life as a geologist in the gold mining sector whereafter she moved into the environmental field. She has worked at various mine sites and corporate functions in a range of commodities including gold, base metals, heavy mineral sands and coal. Her experience includes on-site management of environmental and sustainability issues including design, implementation and management of ISO14001 compliant environmental management systems. Teresa has worked in corporate advisory and reporting roles. She has significant experience managing sustainability issues on large capital projects, including the completion of project feasibility studies; risk assessment and management; and permitting processes. Teresa worked for a large multinational mining company before opening her boutique environmental and sustainability consultancy.

As a committee member, Teresa was actively involved in the drafting of the current SAMESG Guideline.

Mr Ken Lomberg
CRIRSCO Representative

Ken has some 30 years’ experience in the minerals industry (especially platinum and gold). He has been involved in exploration and mine geology and has had the privilege of assisting in bringing a mine to full production. His expertise is especially in project management, mineral reserve and resource estimation.

Ken has undertaken mineral resource and reserve estimations and reviews for platinum, gold, copper, uranium and fluorite projects. He has assisted with the reviews or estimation of diamond and coal projects and assisted or compiled Competent Persons Reports/NI 43-101 for various projects that have been listed on the TSX, JSE and AIM stock exchanges.

Ms Sam Moolla
SSC Administrator

Sam Moolla is the Manager of the SAIMM and oversees the smooth running and operations of the organisation. Her forte is business administration and she has been involved in the SAIMM since the late 1980s. She left to pursue other interests in 2005 and returned in 2013.
 
Sam is the Administrator of the SSC and looks after the day to day running of activities and initiatives, and liaises with all members to ensure that everyone is aligned with the goals and objectives of the SSC.
